Course Description
In the 11th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam, when Lord Sri Krsna is finishing his earthly pastimes, Sri Uddhava is feeling separation. Sri Uddhava places a question to the supreme Lord; how will he get association when the Lord transcends his personal form back to Goloka Dham. The Supreme Lord replies, he is situating himself in the Srimad Bhagavatam. Those who read and discuss the Srimad Bhagavatam will personally associate with the Supreme Lord.
As this great pastime of the churning of the milk ocean begins in Canto 8, King Parikshit will describe in verse 13 of the 5th Chapter nātitṛpyati me cittaṁ- how his desire to hear the pastimes of the Supreme is not getting satiated and he is experiencing a newer taste with each description. The Pastime of Churning of the milk ocean provides us with a unique glimpse on the causeless love, the supreme lord has for his devotees. Whether it’s taking the role of a charioteer in the Kurukshetra Battlefield, or taking the Kurma avatar (Turtle form) to support the Mandara mountain, or taking the Mohini avatar to delude the Asuras. The prevailing theme is to always protect his devotees.
We have taken the essence of those chapters and combine them into this course where we will explore how the two sides - the Suras (demigods) and Asuras (demons) put the same resources (time and energy) to churn the milk ocean. Yet only one side emerges victorious.
Join us for 4 sessions, where we embark on a journey of love, war, defeat and betrayal and see how the Suras emerge victorious because they always sought the shelter of the Supreme Lord.
Arun Das - Teacher Profile
Born and raised in India, Arun was familiar with notions of Vedic culture and spirituality. He finished engineering from the prestigious NIT Surat. On completion of his studies, he started in a lucrative job within the public sector of India. Yet he felt something missing from his life, a yearning to discover the real essence of life. Looking to transform his life, he travelled to the UK to finish his Masters in Subsea Engineering. Successfully completing his masters and working as an Integrity Engineer for a multinational firm, his longing to seek answers to deeper spiritual questions was ever increasing. His curiosity led him to the Krishna Eco farm in Scotland where he started distributing spiritual literature to Scottish towns and cities. During this time, he had a strong realisation that when we share knowledge with others, we ourselves experience real happiness. Wanting to continue learning and growing, he moved to Bhaktivedanta Manor in 2017, where he spent the next 2 years in the Men’s ashram, travelling across the country distributing spiritual literature. He also involved in delivering courses, giving seminars and organising retreats. His love for nature and eco sustainable living further led him to spend some time in the Manor Goshala serving Krsna’s cows. Arun is now working as a Business Analyst. He is a regular member of the outreach programme at Bhaktivedanta Manor. He was involved in delivering Srimad Bhagavatam discourses and believes the best way to give back is to share the essence of the vedic knowledge from Srila Prabhupada’s books.
